Resolved, That Genocide Remembrance Day (April 24) be included in the Calendar of Lesser Feasts and Fasts of The Episcopal Church; and, that the Standing Liturgical Committee of the General Convention prepare appropriate collects and scriptural texts for its commemoration; and be it further

Resolved, That in addition to the remembrance of Armenian Christians, Genocide Remembrance Day mark also the several other 20th century genocides (e.g., the Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur, and the Acholi people of Northern Uganda).

The House of Bishops Committee on Prayer Book, Liturgy and Church Music presented its Report #26 on Resolution C043 (Commemoration of Genocide Remembrance Day) and moved to refer the resolution to the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music.

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That Genocide Remembrance Day (April 24) be included in the Calendar of Lesser Feasts and Fasts of The Episcopal Church; and, that the Standing Liturgical Committee of the General Convention prepare appropriate collects and scriptural texts for its commemoration; and be it further

Resolved, That in addition to the remembrance of Armenian Christians, Genocide Remembrance Day mark also the several other 20th century genocides (e.g., the Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur).

The Bishop of Southwest Florida moved to amend the resolution.

Proposed Amendment:

In the last resolve clause, delete the word “and” after Rwanda. After Darfur, insert “and the Acholi people of Northern Uganda.”

[Editor's Note: The amendment was accepted without vote because the motion was to refer the resolution to a Standing Commission.]
