Diocesan Press Service. August 1, 1973 [73182]

The Rev. Canon Donald E. Becker

DUBLIN (DPS) -- " I am deeply honored by election to this office."

So said Mrs. Harold Kelleran who is one of the three members of the Episcopal Church in the Anglican Consultative Council.

Marion Kelleran was elected Vice Chairman of the ACC at its first meeting in Limuru, Kenya, in 1971. Now she steps up to the chairmanship. Her term actually begins after the next Standing Committee meeting of the ACC next April.

Mrs. Kelleran said, " It will not make really great demands on my time . . . I will have to attend the Standing Committee meetings once a year in London. I will not actually preside as Chairman of the Council until Perth." (The next meeting of the ACC will be in Perth, Australia, in 1975.)

She modestly states, "While it is a privilege to serve as Chairman, I do not envision myself as the foremost lay person in the Anglican Communion."

After serving as Professor of Pastoral Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary for some years, Mrs. Kelleran retired in June of this year and has been elected a Professor Emeritus. She is a member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church. She is the widow of the Rev. Harold C. Kelleran, a priest of the Episcopal Church.
