Mexican Suffragan Bishop Resigns

MEXICO CITY (DPS, April 27) -- La Buena Lid, the paper of the Episcopal Diocese of Central and South Mexico, reported here that the Rt. Rev. Roberto Martinez, suffragan bishop of the diocese has presented his resignation as bishop to Presiding Bishop John M. Allin, Diocesan Bishop Jose G. Saucedo and the Standing Committee of the diocese.

His resignation has been accepted, subject to final approval by the House of Bishops. The paper did not elaborate on the reasons for his resignation.

Martinez was consecrated two years ago in an effort on the part of the Episcopal Church in Mexico to provide pastoral care to isolated areas.

The other suffragan bishop, the Rt. Rev. Claro Huerta, serves in the area of Veracruz.
