Bishop McMillan of Belize Dies

NEW YORK (DPS, Apr.28) -- The Rt. Rev. Keith Alfonso McMillan, Bishop of Belize in the Province of the West Indies since 1980, died in Belize City on April 8 after a short illness. McMillan, who was born in Jamaica, was 58 years old.

A graduate of St. Peter's Theological College in Jamaica, McMillan was ordained to the diaconate in 1957 and to the priesthood in 1958. He served in several parishes in Jamaica and later became diocesan secretary and secretary of the Synod of the Jamaican Church. He also served as chairman of the Anglican Council of North America and Caribbean. Up to the time of his death, McMillan was provincial secretary of the Church in the Province of the West Indies.

Bishop McMillan and his wife, Cynthia, had four children, three girls and a boy.

McMillan's funeral -- a Mass of the Resurrection and Thanksgiving for his life and ministry -- took place at St. Andrew's Parish Church in Jamaica on April 14.
