(ENS) The trustees of the Episcopal Divinity School recently issued a declaration in support of Rt. Rev. Walter C. Righter, retired bishop of Iowa and former assistant bishop of Newark, who "has been made the target of a presentment for having ordained a gay man living in a committed relationship with another man." The statement said that "In making this declaration of support for those targeted with presentments, and for our presiding bishop in support of his call for us to find a better way to resolve our honest differences, we, the Trustees of Episcopal Divinity School, pray that the presenters against Bishop Righter will withdraw their presentment and decline to initiate further presentments on this issue, in recognition that within the Anglican Communion and our own Episcopal Church the issue is unresolved and certainly not a matter of doctrine to the Church as to which presentments may properly be made."
