Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the 68th General Convention urge the members of the House of Bishops to labor diligently for the election and ordination of women to the Episcopate in order to bring wholeness to this order of ministry which exists to "lead, supervise, and unite the Church."

Proposed Committee Amendment:

Delete the words "urge the members of the House of Bishops" and insert in their place the words "urges its members."

Seconded by Bishop Welles.

The Bishop of Connecticut moved a substitute amendment as follows:

Proposed Amendment:

Delete:

"the House of Deputies concurring, That the 68th General Convention urges its members to labor diligently for the election and ordination of women to the episcopate in order to bring wholeness to this order of ministry which exists to 'lead, supervise, and unite the Church.'"

And add the following:

"the House of Deputies concurring, that it is the understanding of the General Convention that those actions of the 65th General Convention in Minneapolis in 1976 opened all orders of ministry in this Church apart from considerations of sex."

Seconded by the Bishop of the Rio Grande.

Bishop Campbell moved to table the Amendments and the Resolution.

The motion to table passed by a vote of 90 to 66.
