Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring, That the 73rd General Convention of the Episcopal Church acknowledge the need for federal legislation that addresses the legal status of a baby born alive (during a natural or induced labor, cesarean section, or induced abortion), and the types of protections these infants are entitled to receive; and be it further
Resolved, That the General Convention direct the Episcopal staff in Washington D.C. to urge the U.S. Congress to call for such legislation and to communicate this resolution to all members of Congress and encourage them to support proposed legislation; and be it further
Resolved, That the General Convention encourage local congregations to initiate community based support systems that provide care for babies born-alive if family members cannot.
