Resolved, That the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, meeting in Salt Lake City from April 18-20, 2012, urges the United States Congress to adopt S. 1925 to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, and urges all Episcopalians, through the Episcopal Public Policy Network, to contact their legislators and express their support for the legislation; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council expresses particular support for provisions in the legislation to establish new provisions in federal law that would: (1) protect Native American women by giving tribes the authority to prosecute domestic violence-related crimes when the perpetrator lives or works in the jurisdiction of the tribe, or is the spouse or intimate partner of a tribe member, irrespective of the race or ethnicity of the perpetrator; (2) raise the cap on visas issued to undocumented aliens who are victims of domestic violence; and (3) prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in domestic-violence shelters supported by the Act.
