Text:

Resolved, That the Executive Council urge the United States government to advocate for the women of Afghanistan by:

  1. using the full diplomatic capability of the United States government in support of basic human rights for the women of Afghanistan;
  2. refusing to subordinate the human rights of the women of Afghanistan to the efforts of the United States to fight world terrorism and drug trafficking;
  3. urging the United Nations Security Council to insist that the rights of women in Afghanistan be restored and not be further abridged;
  4. asking that the provisions of the United Nations Convention to Eliminate Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women's Platform for Action be honored by the Taliban leaders; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council call upon our church to pray for the safety of the women of Afghanistan and for the restoration of their rights as human beings and children of a merciful God;

Resolved, That the resolution be sent to leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives, the President of the United States, and Senator Jesse Helms.
