The Rev. Alexander Mann was a committed deputy, having served in the House from 1904-1922. He was born in Geneva, NY, in 1860, the son of a clergyman. He attended Hobart College, graduating in 1881. He was ordained a deacon in 1885, and priested after his graduation from the General Theological Seminary in 1886. He was briefly curate of St. James’ Church, Buffalo, NY before becoming assistant at Grace Church, Orange, NJ, in 1887, succeeding to the rectorship in 1900. From 1905 to 1923 he served as rector of Trinity Church, Boston. Mann was elected Bishop of Washington in 1906, Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of Newark in 1915, and Bishop of Western New York in 1917, but he refused all three, finally accepting the position of Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1923. He died on November 15, 1948.
